ParticipantWelcome – I used to be the only one who spoke English and not Danish. I hope you get hooked on Tekno like I am! Yours could be Tekno or Kirk on the baseplate – the photo is not good enough. The red looks like a bad repaint but hopefully the yellow plastic will clean up nicely. Soak in boiling water and see if the red will scrub off with a toothbrush. Maybe try very hot water first, especially the grill and front end.
The rail version is much more common than the plastic tarp covered version. KARL

ParticipantHi Bertel, Is that a Vilmer Mercedes with a Vilmer Bedford dump truck on the back? Did you do it yourself? I like it!
IB – good job getting the bottle rack to fit into the truck. Sounds like it was NOT easy!

ParticipantHans Jørgen – great list of start and stop dates. It agrees with my start dates but I am not sure of the end dates. But I have no better dates to tell you.
I think maybe the old planes 401-488 were old stock or parts they kept selling up until 1969 (even though they were not in the catalogs after 1958-61).
(I still need parts for my blik flyver…)

ParticipantI went back and looked at all the old photocopies of have of Tekno material. Most of it is stamped “J & P Petersen” and are in a large book. Was he a big Tekno collector? I got it from a collector in the UK.

Aug-51 401,403,488 listed on pricelist

ParticipantGood luck on the spare parts. Those little Llloyd cars are not easy to find in good condition and good price anymore! If you need any photos of them, let me know. Karl

ParticipantThe Flying Fortress and Bristol Blenheim came out in the 1930s so an earlier date – 1938 – might be correct. The Douglas SBD Dauntless was not made until 1940 so 1938 is too early for that one. Were the authors of the Tekno Bible just guessing or had documentation?
Thank you for the story of your grandfather. It puts things in perspective.

ParticipantTekno typically followed a sequential numbering scheme, so this is my guess on the order released. By 1943 Denmark could not use tinplate because the German war restrictions (I think that date is correct), so Tekno switched to diecast metal. Does anyone know if this is true?
380 tinplate airplane – 1935+
401 Flying Fortress – 1943
402 Bristol Blenheim (BB-1) – 1943
403 Douglas Dauntless SBD Divebomber (DSB-1) – 1943
488 KZ IV – 1944The real KZ IV came out in 1944. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAI_KZ_IV

ParticipantI never was at the legetøjsbutikken but I like the Tekno van the best of all of them. Nice color decals and I live in the USA!

Thank you for the post!

ParticipantCongratulations! I like the ‘new’ Yesteryear in the ‘old’ style box!

ParticipantThank you for your reply, IB. I agree that Tekno came first, in all probability. Spon did remember doing both the Volvo and the Scania cab, and I am very biased to the Tekno / Spon designs, so I am sure he did them internally without copying.
I think it is fun to find similar models and compare (ie, Pilen, Joal etc).

ParticipantThe Tekno is on the left and the Jue in the middle. A Tekno Volvo is shown for comparison on the right.

Stroget
ParticipantI think Tekno may have copied the designs without permission or they may have issued them during the war and could not use their real (Allied) names in occupied Denmark. I am just guessing.
402 Bristol Blenheim (BB-1)
403 Douglas Dauntless SBD Divebomber (DSB-1)Was DSB a typo or is that the Danish translation for “Scout Bomber Douglas”?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol_Blenheim
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_SBD_DauntlessDo you know when they were made?

ParticipantGreat article! Thanks for posting the copies. I wonder how Andrew Ralston knew which Vilmer models came first? I wrote an article on Vilmer for Model Auto Review (UK) in 1995 but I would like to update it.

ParticipantI believe there were two (2) Lion toy car companies – one Denmark and one Holland.
Lion Denmark – made the FORD FK 1000 van (different casting from Tekno), Mercedes race car, and Ferguson tractor. Lion is in script on the baseplate with a funny Lion symbol (drawing) next to it. The van and race car used Molberg tires. The tractor has Molberg cast on the base along with the script Lion. Were they the same company or not? I have all three to compare.
Lion Holland – Made 2 of their cars in Denmark – marked Lion Car (with no Lion symbol or drawing) and Made in Denmark on the baseplate. Same two cars were marked Made in Holland as well. Marketed in the Tekno catalogs. So either Tekno cast them, assembled them, and/or just marketed them. I have both of them.

ParticipantKnut – you are crazy – 65 cars!!! Do you have a GOAL of perhaps 100 and will then stop? 🙂 You are also very nice – to make cars for the neighbor kids! I hope they will get hooked! Karl (who has 4 or 5 MBs, maybe!)

ParticipantThere are two Volvo Ytongs on ‘epay’ now. The one from the Netherlands has the tow eye also – but it is a different style casting! Strange? Is it original?
My Volvo Titan is cut-off, with no loop or eye.
Stroget
ParticipantJoal came in 3 types of boxes – the older cardboard, the plastic case with hole in baseplate to screw it onto the base, and LARGE cardboard with plastic clamshell style cover (made in Macau on baseplate).

ParticipantHans Jørgen – Great work! Thank you for the photos. It helps explain a lot! Tak, Karl
