Tekno construction sets (like Meccano) It’s actually TRIX copy with three times as many holes as Meccano.
Subject. wood stuff etc. as you mention is in 1940 catalog. Doll furniture has the same no. as the cars from Langes toys. So I think Tekno have stopped these furniture from “T.H.Model furniture” in 1948/49. The numbering thus fits with the purchased goods
Tekno continued wooden items through the 1950’s and got a large production plant in Frederikssund, which probably was acquired by Brio.
When you look at old photos, you soe times see France things like “Safir” vintage cars in the background. And around 1960 has been a collaboration with Solido.
The Japanese connection sounds interesting. It must be started early. Before 1950. I have a spaceship –near mint box– with no. 418 which is the same no. As, barndoore VW “the red carpet”

    Hi Carl

    Nice work you have done.

I´m sure your katalog from “1962” came in 1963. It´s funny with advertisements from Tekno, that it was targeted dealers not customers until 1961. Katalogs from 1940, 1958 etc. came to dealers so they was able to order from Tekno. They had a dealers katalog in the 1950-ies with loose pages an a loose priceguide. News came by mail in loose pages. Dealers have to order by phone, letters or by salesmen from Tekno, who constantly traveled from shop to shop.
Theese salesmen often bring news to show dealers and they most importent got one fx Thorgreen. Others have to waite. If they cars wasn´t ready yet they bring pictures either of a prototype or the real car.
Tekno was very careful who got there product for selling. It change in the 1960.ties.

This 1962/63 catalog — does it have images from previous catalog ? So for example. The VW 1200, Volvo amazon and 544 are actually previous models, which are most likely seen most clearly on the VW 1200 without the front indicators.

Why should Tekno use photos of real cars like VW 1500, DKW junior, Jaguar-E open, and Kadett in 1964-65-66 and 1968-69 catalogs ?

I have not seen the catalogs, I’m just wondering.

Yes, the VW Beetles, DKW, and Opel on the left above (1968-69 catalog) are the same images as in the 1966 (35 ore) catalog. The 1963 (30 ore) has older drawings of the VW.

However, the newer 1970-71 catalog shows 4 VWs with photos of the real Tekno models.

The one on the right is the French catalog so maybe they had to get their own images? So they used real cars if the Teknos were not received in time to get the catalog printed.

The same for the Danish catalogs – if they need to print them in time for Christmas, then they use old images or real car images if the Tekno models are not ready in time or can’t get to the photographer and printer in time. That seems reasonable.

Does anyone remember the “Tekno igen” in Denmark? Did they show up in 1974 or when?

It is interesting with the VW beetle 819a without front indicator lights. It is never seen as a Police or a PTT model, but appears in a later catalogues that you are showing. It confuses people — Someone says the model is found in these variants, but no one has seen it and no one has one.
The 819b suspension model came in different versions.

I’m sure I bought an “original” Danish Tekno Scania DSB bus, in 1974 It’s with advertisements and without the wings on the front, and is more bright red than the old DSB bus. I would have had the old colors because it was the way they looked in my city, and without advertisements. And i bought a closed MB 280SL in white – It was only available in white in Holbæk, because I wanted to Have had a red one … Have them both yet. Probably after assembled. Asked specifically if they were Danish or Dutch, so your assumption about 1974 sounds right. They were on sale along with other models, but my pocket money was only for these two. In the shop they said that they was surplus stock. And they did not immediately have any knowledge of the Holland models. All models were gone in a week and there were many. The store was relatively new and large then.To day it is as BR toy shops is, most, and that was big then.

We went to Thorngreen in 1974 and all the Teknos WERE GONE! That was on Strøget, hence my username. 🙂 Tivoli still had them as prizes for the games though. I won a FORD Taunus van after betting a lot of tokens!

Then in 1977 I did find some old stock Tekno Denmark in Austria and Belgium, nothing in Copenhagen except for some Volvo AND Scania TRUCKS from Holland. In 1981, nothing but some cheap Tekno Denmarks in the antique shops around Copenhagen…

Now you can tell how old I am! Karl
