I just found a red one! It’s the GYRO version. Do you know when these were made? The Tekno book says 1950-55?

is Tekno models not always GYRO ? — I think, after WWII tekno tried in several directions even to put TEKNO name on Japanese tin toys. Gyro was an expensive affair, I have read about it in Peter’s articles ?

My three say MIRACO GYRO or GYRO above the front grill and Tekno Denmark on the baseplate. Copy of the SCHUCO Mirako car!

yep — Thought Tekno only had GYRO in production. Schuco also had the model as Examico. It is post-war Schuco models … Gyro — hold on the car press down and push, then release, after which the car will run and jump, I think. It is Schuco cars and believed to be very expensive for Tekno. I believe that German patents were suspended after IIWW and free for everyone to buy. But since it is Schuco post-war models, Tekno bought the rights of Schuco. Then they kept a possible, competitor out of the market. Tekno made licensed cars, and kept Schuco out of the market, just as with engineer sets which was Trix copies. but the world had become smaller and world trade, more efficient to the philosophy could hold in the long run

But – I have actually never understood what was so great about Schuco cars. They did not look like real cars. Mine ran off the edge of the table, although they should not. Gyro model soon stopped working, and those with winding, broken the spring … I also have some small Schucos like HotWsheels. Schuco models is actually not running very good ! But that’s probably just me who was demanding.

The Tekno Miraco or Schuco Mirako had fake front wheels. When the front ran off the edge of the table then a 5th wheel underneath in the middle turns the car to the right and back onto the table. It was a ‘miracle’!

The Gyro was a pull-back mechanism with no 5th wheel, so it would run right off the table!

I know. Have had them … My Miraco just ran over the table edge once in a while anyway. And no there was no pullback motor, for it was first launched by Japanese TOMY in 1977 ….. I am quite sure that the other has a flywheel motor. Push it, for being able to run and press it down for being able to jump.I think also illustrated on the original box
